Orchid Series

In this series Brewer began creating the strange hybrid amalgamations of flora, grafting together cryptobotany and environmentalism…  The lichens, anemones, corals, and mosses take root in his imagination: drawn, photographed, collaged and enlarged, they become the actors and apparitions in his dramatic tableaux.  Reshaped into enigmatic clusters or linear structures, they hover in an indeterminate space, paying homage to nature’s variety and ingenuity but also hinting at the human aided evolution already taking place.
